“Interview TERMINATED”: Has Richard Madeley stolen Piers Morgan’s crown after cutting GMB interview short? VOTE in our poll!
Richard Madeley has become talk of the town after prematurely shutting down his interview with Gavin Williamson live on air this week.
Piers Morgan has always proudly worn the crown for most controversial broadcaster; his blunt and shocking remarks often causing a mixture of uproar and delight among Good Morning Britain viewers. However, Madeley’s recent television stunts may have put a spanner in the works…
With Piers taking a break from the ITV news programme, Richard stepped forward to fill the spot this week. And no one was prepared for what was in store.
The guest presenter has provided a number of comedy-gold moments, but the most entertaining by far came during his interview with defence secretary Gavin Williamson.
When Madeley asked if Williamson regretted telling Russia to “go away and shut up” after Moscow denied carrying out a nerve agent attack in Salisbury, the defence secretary repeatedly dodged the question until the host’s patience could be tested no longer.
“Right, you’re not going to answer, are you?” he snapped. “Okay. All right, interview terminated because you won’t answer the question.
“It would be helpful if you answered a straight question with a straight answer.”
After booting the Conservative politician off-air right there and then, Madeley remarked: “What are they like? What are these politicians like, when you give them a straight question?
“It would have been so easy to say, ‘No, I don’t, I think it was an appropriate expression’, or to say, ‘Yes, probably, on reflection, I should have perhaps been a little more formal’.”
Naturally, Twitter had something to say, with some viewers praising the presenter for his “poetic” conduction of the interview, and others labelling it “embarrassing to watch”.
Richard Madeley just ended an interview with a government minister because the minister wouldn’t answer his question. More of this please…..👍 @GMB

Well done Richard Madeley for not giving politicians the easy ride they usually get. Time to start calling out the liars too, don’t let them get away with it.
