Channel 4 is launching a plane crash survival reality show
Channel 4 is launching a new survival show where contestants will have to survive a plane crash. You can’t make this stuff up.
It’s not quite as bad as it sounds. Channel 4 isn’t deliberately going to crash a plane (not that they haven’t tried that before), but in fact stage the devastating aftermath and equip “a small team of engineers” with a survival task using only the resources found in the debris.
These engineers will have to use only the materials found in the wreckage of the plane to build a vehicle fast enough for them to escape.
An advert advertising to potential contestants said: “Dropped in a remote and undisclosed location, a small team of engineers will have only their imagination, resourcefulness and what they can find from the debris of a crash to create a vehicle to escape from the scene.
“With a finite amount of food and water they must work fast to create a vehicle that will help them escape.”
According to The Sun, producers are hoping to combine the thrill-a-minute nature of shows like Lost with the resourcefulness of shows like Scrapheap Challenge.
A source said: “This latest idea is a twist on Lost and Scrapheap Challenge and it’s hoped it will appeal to a wide audience.”
Little else is currently known about the upcoming project, including when it can be expected to air on Channel 4.
