Danny Rand is home in the first look trailer for new Netflix series Marvel’s Iron Fist
Netflix has dropped the first look trailer for Marvel’s Iron Fist at San Diego Comic Con.
The trailer briefly hints at protagonist Danny Rand’s tragic backstory, before he makes his return to New York as the superhero known as ‘Iron Fist’.
Danny is played by former Game of Thrones actor Finn Jones in the series, which has been a long time in the making. Originally announced in 2013 as the fourth of a series of Marvel superhero adaptations, Netflix has since premiered two seasons about Matt Murdock – also known as Daredevil – and one about Jessica Jones.
Speaking about the role to Entertainment Weekly in April, Jones said: “I really enjoy how he’s a superhero with a real heart but has spiritual elements as well. I think it’s going to be an exciting character to play because there’s this contraction of on one hand he’s from a very wealthy family, he’s a billionaire, on the other hand he’s been in this world of K’un-Lun for a long time where he’s learned kung fu and buddhist philosophy. There’s a contradiction in those elements that’s going to be really fun to play.”
Rand will team up with Murdock and Jones, as well as Luke Cage – who receives his first series in September this year – to form Marvel’s Defenders, a superhero team who join forces to protect New York City. A Netflix Original series about their exploits will follow the first series of Iron Fist in 2017.
