Dapper Laughs addresses “derogatory” comments made in Celebrity Big Brother house
The Loose Women panel grilled Dapper Laughs – real name Daniel O’Reilly – during his interview on the talk show today.
Daniel was evicted from the Celebrity Big Brother house over the weekend and appeared on ITV’s Loose Women this afternoon to discuss his time on the Channel 5 series.
The panel were quick to ask the comedian about the notorious rape joke he made a few years ago whilst on his stand-up tour, which effectively brought an end to his comedy career.
First expressing his remorse for the joke, Daniel continued: “It was just a flippant comment. I got carried away with what I was saying.
“I was showing off, and it was a stupid thing to say.”
Dapper Laughs also explained how he grabbed the opportunity to appear on Celebrity Big Brother when he knew the theme was the Year of the Woman, as he knew it would be “tough” and because it might give him the “platform” to return to comedy.
Pannelist Nadia Sawalha chimed in: “You’re obviously a lovely guy, you’ve got a lot of great things going for you, but personally I still think you’ve got more to learn.
“Some of the comments you said were so derogatory to women, even in the house, that if you said that about my daughter I don’t know quite what I would say to you.
“You as a father of a daughter, I think if you put yourself in that place and hear those words – and I don’t think you do it maliciously, you’re probably in a crowd that talk like that – it’s really important. This language is so powerful.”
Daniel replied that he never meant his “silly” remarks in a “malicious way”, to which Nadia said: “I think you’re funny without the sexual jokes – just stop it!”
The comedian agreed that he still has more to learn and insisted he had “a different view” on everything since being in the CBB house.
Loose Women continues weekdays at 12:30pm on ITV.
Celebrity Big Brother continues tonight at 9pm on Channel 5.
