Guess who’s back on The X Factor!
We all woke up this morning to learn the shocking news (that hasn’t actually shocked anyone) – Dermot O’Leary will return as the host of next year’s The X Factor.

Simon Cowell released this joyful statement this morning, welcoming O’Leary back into the fold:
“Dermot’s back! Hooray! And so is his dancing! Welcome home, Dermot.”
Interestingly it seems Cowell may have been keeping track of Dermot on his year off as the presenter was quoted giving his opinion on how to bring back ratings to the show.
“If I was Simon I’d take [The X Factor] off air for a year, I’d rest it, and then I’d get back to the rooms. For me it was always room, arena, boot camp.”
Whilst Simon clearly ignored advice to take the show off the air, it has been confirmed that the room auditions will return. For clarification, back in the old days (2004), the wannabe singers would have to perform in front of the judges in a small audition room – no big ol’ Wembley Arena until you’d passed the first stage. It’ll be interesting to see if bringing back this intimate and embarrassing dynamic will conjure up better viewing figures.
Twitter was alight with cheery reactions to the news:
Just read @radioleary back to @TheXFactor …good move and I think inevitable. He’s a hit! #dancemoves#dermot#itv#xfactor

As well as those who are convinced the show is doomed anyway…
Cowell must have done some grovelling! It wont change the show though, #SoBoredOfXFactor should have finished 4yrs ago #Dermot#XFactor — DJ (@Diane1jones) March 29, 2016
Meanwhile, rumours that One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson would be joining the judging panel seem to have been squashed by the star himself. Tomlinson has supposedly stated that he will not be taking Nick Grimshaw’s place on the judging panel in order to focus on his new record label. If Simon was relying on the millions of tween viewers the 1D star would have brought with him, he’s in trouble. Time will only tell if Dermot can pump some much needed life into the OAP singing competition.
