Helen Mirren gets serious in ‘Documentary Now!’ trailer with Bill Hader & Fred Armisen
Queen Mirren is back on form in the new trailer for Bill Hader and Fred Armisen’s Emmy nominated spoof series Documentary Now!
Purporting to be a trailer for the show’s fifty-first season, the new clip gives us an inside look at season two’s first of seven episodes, which will be a parody of The War Room entitled The Bunker, and will focus on an Ohio gubernatorial race instead of a presidential race.
Set in 1992, Armisen and Hader will play political strategists whose candidate, Ben Herndon, is concerned their latest attack ad against opponent Governor Lester is too negative.
In particular, Hader’s character will be based on James Carville, who he’s played before on Saturday Night Live. “It’s different when you see him in War Room. He’s a different guy,” Hader said at the Television Critics Association press tour. “When I played him on Saturday Night Live he was raised by eels and stuff”.
Other films spoofed in the show’s new season include Jiro Dreams of Sushi (Juan Likes Rice & Chicken), Swimming to Cambodia (Parker Gail’s Location Is Everything), Stop Making Sense (Transmission) and The Kid Stays in the Picture (Mr. Runner Up: My Life as an Oscar Bridesmaid, Part 1 and Part 2). The season will also feature such guest stars as Anne Hathaway, Mia Farrow, Peter Bogdanovich, Peter Fonda and Maya Rudolph.
Season 2 of Documentary Now! begins Wednesday September 14th on IFC.
