Loose Women panel criticised for insensitive Christopher Maloney treatment
Viewers have complained after Christopher Maloney was forced to stand in front of a mirror and point out his insecurities during a Loose Women interview.
The former X Factor star appeared on the ITV show today (Tuesday) to talk about his cosmetic surgery.
Christopher admitted he hated looking at his own reflection in the mirror, leading him to spend over £100k on cosmetic procedures.
The 40-year-old told the Loose Women panel: “I had surgery about four weeks ago, I had a hair transplant, upper-eyelid surgery, another nose job, teeth done and some Botox. So I had it all in five days, so it was quite drastic.”
Christopher continued to explain how online trolls still bully him for his appearance. “Obviously the trolls started again,” he said. “You get thousands and thousands of positive, but like one negative, that stays with you.”
The panel probed their guest over the reasons behind his surgery, despite it being an incredibly sensitive topic for Christopher. Janet Street-Porter said: “I get trolled, I get told I look like a horse, I get told I’ve got big teeth, but I’ not rushing off and getting surgery and getting a big set of white gnashers!”
However, the most uncomfortable moment of the interview arrived when the panel asked him to stand up and confront his own reflection in a mirror.
Christine Lampard said: “You talk about not feeling comfortable, we’ve got a mirror here now – are you able to stand in front of it and tell us what you’re able to see? Because I’m looking at something very, very different clearly. Are you happy to do that?”
When Christopher fell silent, the host added: “It’s interesting that you’re even uncomfortable at that conversation.”
The star was eventually encouraged over to a mirror at the side of a stage, which was covered by a sheet. As he removed the sheet, Christine asked: “Are you uncomfortable?”
“Yes,” Christopher laughed nervously as he darted back towards his seat.
“Is that is?” Christine asked in disbelief, before Janet grabbed the singer’s hand and exclaimed: “You’re shaking!”
The panel then forced their guest to make a verbal promise that he’d seek professional help before undergoing any more surgery.
“This isn’t just an empty promise. We’re going to follow up on this,” Christine warned.
Loose Women viewers were outraged by Christopher’s treatment and blasted the panel for humiliating someone with clear low self-esteem in front of a television audience.
One Twitter user wrote: “Who forces someone with body issues in front of a mirror when they clearly stated that this is something they don’t feel comfortable doing?”
Another said: “That is absolutely AWFUL.”

Watching #LooseWomen today hasn't made me want to ever watch it again tbh. Who forces someone with body issues in front of a mirror when they clearly stated that this is something they don't feel comfortable doing?
Didn't like that at all.

Don’t make the man look in the mirror if he don’t like it ffs #LooseWomen
— Jode (@JudeHey_) July 3, 2018
#loosewomen why would you do that to him when he has told you how looking in a mirror makes him feel???

To even suggest that look in the mirror when he clearly has issues is wrong. Would it be different if it was a girl? And then point out that he was shaking. Uh YEAH, so would I if u asked me to stand in front of a mirror and point out everything I hate about myself #loosewomen

That is absolutely AWFUL. Why would you put an insecure man on the spot like that to do something he has doubly stressed he’s not comfortable with,(look in the mirror) && in front of an audience. He looked like he had no knowledge you was going to ask that @loosewomen #loosewomen
