Michelle Keegan confirms she will be making another series of Our Girl
Michelle Keegan has confirmed that she will be filming a new series of Our Girl in the new year.
Our Girl has been a complete hit with viewers, with Keegan’s portrayal of army medic Lance Corporal Georgie Lane winning much praise from the general public. The BBC Drama series came to its conclusion last night, but the 29-year-old actress has reassured fans of the show that there will indeed be a next instalment of the programme.
The former Coronation Street actress said in a statement: “I’m so happy that we’ll be back for another series as I think there’s definitely more stories to tell with Georgie.”
“It was an amazing experience filming with such an incredible group of people and I can’t wait to do it all over again.”
She also thanked the fans of the show, saying: “The reaction to the show has been overwhelming and I’m really thankful to everyone who’s watched and supported it.”
Indeed, there was an impressive reaction on social media during the series finale last night. #OurGirl was the top trending hashtag, and Twitter users were avidly showing their love for the show:
Gutted that #OurGirl has finished… For now !!! So so sooooo amazing, I just want Elvis & Georgie to be back together! 😍👏🏽

The explosive finale saw Georgie end her relationship with Jamie, played by Royce Pierreson, on the day of their wedding. The main character also chose a return to Nufula and the Kenyan refugee camp over her first love Elvis, played by Luke Pasqualino.
The show creator Tony Grounds talked about whether Elvis will feature in the new series: “I think that’s a possibility.”
And when asked if this was the end for Royce’s Jamie, he confessed: “Not necessarily… I think all three live to fight another day.”
With the first series having been set in Afghanistan and the second in Kenya, Grounds admitted that he has not yet decided on a location for the new series. He told RadioTimes.com: “I’m doing the research at the moment so I haven’t put my finger on the globe yet… I’m going to be looking where the natural disasters are and where the British army’s involved so I haven’t 100% chosen the place.”
The drama’s creator would also happily welcome first season’s lead Lacey Turner back to the show, in her role as Molly Dawes, especially after Captain James (Ben Aldridge) let slip that she is now his wife during last week’s episode.
Grounds said: “If she ever wanted to do it she’s only got to ring me up – she knows that. I think it’s all about logistics. I don’t know how EastEnders works and we’re invariably filming abroad. But I love that Molly Dawes character.”
A new series of Our Girl will return next year on BBC One.
