Sarah Lancashire confirms return to Happy Valley series 3
Sarah Lancashire has confirmed she will return to Happy Valley for series 3.
The future of Happy Valley had appeared in doubt after series star Sarah Lancashire seemingly ruled out a return to the series in March this year.
She reportedly said to Mail Online: “It’s the end of the story for Happy Valley. I wouldn’t want it to go to a third series, I really wouldn’t – then it becomes something else. We set out to tell a story and we have told it.”
Thankfully for Happy Valley fans, it looks like Lancashire has changed her mind about returning to the BAFTA Award-winning drama.
Lancashire told The Sun: “I thought we’d already had the end but Sally [Wainwright, creator of Happy Valley] feels there is a very final ending needed for the show and for Catherine. There’s going to be a very big full-stop to the piece.”
Happy Valley originally premiered on BBC One in 2014, introducing viewers to the world of Catherine Cawood (Lancashire), a police sergeant who goes to extreme measures to ensure the man who raped her daughter is captured – unintentionally discovering another criminal plot along the way. A second series followed early in 2016.
The series has received critical acclaim, scoring an astonishing 100% on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes for both series.
Despite the good news, fans may have to wait a while for the series three premiere of the show.
Lancashire confirmed: “It’s just an idea at the moment.
“Sally has told us she wants to write another series, which will be the final one. We don’t know when it will happen.”
