Twitter reacts to The Oscars giving out the wrong Best Picture award
Everyone is talking about the fiasco at The Oscars this morning after Warren Beatty announced the wrong winner for the Best Picture Award.
Things turned extremely awkward last night when the Best Picture Award, the most highly anticipated award of the evening, was handed to the wrong winner.
Beatty announced that La La Land had bagged the prize trophy, but the realisation of the slip-up dawned on everyone mid-way through the acceptance speech.
It turns out that Moonlight was the actual victor, but the wrong envelope had accidentally been handed over before the announcement.
Beatty explained what had happened: “I opened the envelope and it said Emma Stone, La La Land. That’s why I took a long look at Faye [Dunaway]. I wasn’t trying to be funny.”
Props to La La Land producer Jordan Horowitz, however, who graciously said he was “proud” to be handing the award to Moonlight.
Of course, with every television disaster comes the very finest of Twitter reactions. Here are some of the most genius remarks from users online:

OK, my only other request is for the same thing to happen with the election. We are standing by for the correction, Warren. #Oscars

And the real award goes to Steve Harvey himself, for this gem of a tweet:
Good morning everybody! Went to sleep early last night. So… what I miss? #Oscars
